Hello, I'm a sophomore in college, and I'm taking the winter break to look up possible internships/programs for the summer. The problem is, I'm so confused about what it is I want to do. I'm a pre-med psych major (because I love the brain) and I am planning to go to medical school, but how do I know that's what I'm SUPPOSED to be doing with my life? I'm not at a point yet where I want to so quickly narrow down my career path; I have a variety of interests (sports, current events, politics, science, mythology, philosophy, ethics, etc)..I guess my ';dream'; career would be one where I could intertwine all of those disciplines with medicine and the brain (for example, I'd love to solve mysteries in some exotic location) but that's probably a bit far-fetched. Then again, maybe I just like the IDEA of those disciplines as they are displayed on mediums such as television and books..wow, this is so confusing. I know certainly that no matter what I end up doing, I want to help people. Can someone give me advice about what I should be looking for?Advice about possible internships/career goals?
Talk to your counselor to see if they believe it's right for you. When someone comes and talks to me about becoming an accountant and they seem to have no idea what one does and just want to talk about what kind of money they'll make, I know to tell them to back off. I'm not saying you're doing it for the money, but you get the idea, they can tell if it's in your heart.
Then coordinate an internship through the university. Not sure how to intern as an undergrad, but it's worth a try.
You're probably only 20. Don't expect to know what you want at this point at all. Most intelligent people will change their major up to 7 times during the course of their college career.Advice about possible internships/career goals?
I think the further you get into college %26amp; med school it will become clear as to what you like and which way you should go. I think if you like the brain so much, maybe an internship with a neurologist would be good for you. You have a lot of time so don't rush it. You will find your dream career in your own time and your own way. There is nothing wrong with having interests in other things. Maybe an aptitude test would be a good thing for you to take. Talk with your counselor. Good Luck %26amp; keep up with the dreams!
