Advice about Primary School Teaching in the UK?

I'm currently working in accountancy and am feeling very bored and unfulfilled in my job. I have all the required GCSE's and a degree in music and have been thinking of going into teaching; primary rather than secondary. I know that it will probably be more hard work than my current job, but think it would probably be worth it in order to have a more fulfilling career. Can anyone give me any advice on this? Some good and bad points of primary teaching in the UK from personal experience would be very useful! Thank you!Advice about Primary School Teaching in the UK?
Go for it, teaching is hard, stressful and not the most paid profession in the world BUT it can be the most rewarding and fulfilling career you will ever have.

Primary is where my heart lies, the joy of watching a child suddenly realise that they can complete a given task is great.

Secondary seems to be a lot harder as the children have more attitude but my friends assure me it is just as rewarding albeit in a different way.

Take the plunge and join the gang trying to educate our future generations you won't regret it.Advice about Primary School Teaching in the UK?
You cannot get into teaching in the UK without a degree. This can be a B.ED or another subject degree followed by PGCE.

You have your degree in music so all you would need is 1 year PGCE.

Teaching is hard work with long, long hours. BUT you do get holidays!!
You have a degree so that's good but to become a teacher you have to do a 1 year PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) course. This includes practical and written assignments so you would get classroom experience.
As a teacher of over 30 years I think that teaching is like love; if its the right thing for you then it is heaven, if it is not it is hell. Ask to visit local schools they will all help you and make sure that it will be a joy for the rest of your working life. The money is not wonderful but it certainly is not bad.
Do you mind if i ask how you got into accountancy?

Weird i wanted to be a teacher but decided to become an accountant.(im 16).To be honest I'm still not sure, might still want to become one

Hope you get great responses!
Well you'd need to do something at uni i think.

My best mate is on her 4th year at uni doing teaching, on an 8 week school experience thing at the moment.

From what i can see its really difficult, because its a long day, then as soon as you get home you need to plan for the next day, its non stop.

Most of the time shes planning until bed, then waking up and doing the whole thing again!

Anyway, sorry this is mainly the bad points about it. lol
You need A-level/Highers or do an access to teaching course to get into uni. Personally I would rather be an accountant, the money is better.
I am a primary school teacher and have never wanted to do anything else. I love it, but i am completely shattered all the time! The PGCE was a very hard year so you have to have a lot of support from family/friends. I thought i was 'good with kids' and i had had lots of good feedback when i had been in school on a voluntary basis, so thought i would just be able to do it. But when i first stood infront of a class and had to control them it was a completly different matter! I learnt loads in that year however, and now i love my job. To give you an idea of hours, i get to work at 7.30am and leave at 5pm (Later when doing after school club) I work 2 nights a week for about 2 hours and at least 5 hours on the weekend. Some people do more, some less. I think it depends on your style, class size etc.In the holidays i do 1-2 days of planning and have 1 full day in school to 'set up'. Other than that the holidays are fab! Its a fantastic job and the children make it all worthwhile. Good luck.
