Any advice for a new teacher about to teach 3rd Grade?

Remember they are the in between grade. At the beginning of the year they seem more like primary students but really mature and become more independent by the end of the year. They love to transition into reading ';Chapter Books'; or the beginning novels that are appropriate for their age level. Give them jobs to do not only in your classroom but around the school (library helpers, book buddies, mail delivers, etc.). This helps to build their confidence and build maturity. It is usually a leap year in curriculum in most states, so make sure you know your standards and curriculum for the grade level because it is usually a lot to cover in one year. It's a wonderful grade to teach.Any advice for a new teacher about to teach 3rd Grade?
I just student taught in a third grade class last year and the one thing that I learned was that they really look up to you. If you just act very friendly but still strict when you need to be they will love you as a teacher and as a friend. Get to know each and every one of them by making conversation that doesn't have to do with school when you are at recess or at the end of the day. Make notice when they have on new outfits or haircuts to let them know that you pay attention to their details. good luck:)Any advice for a new teacher about to teach 3rd Grade?
I teach first grade and have taught third and fourth. I've been teaching 8 years. You cannot try and be their friends because they will not repect you and they will WALK all over you. YOU should care about them but you have to establish rules and follow thru. They will respect you. TEACH with compassion though and CARE about them. GOOD LUCK
I'm twenty five now, I don't remember one thing from elementary. You could probably make a completely bold-face lie, and they won't remember a thing. Don't think I'm unsuccessful now though, I'm going to Devry College next summer on a scholarship. Oh yeah, don't let them eat the glue, and have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not many people get to be teachers you know.
